Jeff’s 1997 Turbo Eclipse: A Turbo Spyder with Carbon Fiber

Carbon Fiber Hood and FendersFor some time, I have seen an increase in carbon fiber products used when tuning, like Jeff did with his 1997 Turbo Eclipse.  His car features several items throughout the car that is carbon fiber, and why I really want to look at it is because of its unique look with its benefit of being lite weight.

A couple of weeks ago, I was down in Milwaukee visiting one of my good friends who has a couple Hondas he is building, which will hopefully be featured on the site, soon.  Anyways, he had just bought a carbon fiber trunk and he had it in his dinning room, on the floor.  I went and picked it up.  The thing was so lite!  I only used a couple of fingers and lifted it up from the side no problem.  Ever since then, it was clearer to me why people go for the carbon fiber products.  So, lets check out how Jeff incorporated carbon fiber products onto his 1997 turbo Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder.

The most obvious on the car is the VIS OEM carbon fiber d and the carbon fiber fenders.  On the doors, hes got APR F1 carbon fiber mirrors looking back on a carbon fiber trunk.  He also has a carbon fiber windshield wiper cowl, with other carbon fiber parts yet to be installed, like the carbon fiber fuel door and fog-light delete covers.  All, which complete this car with the most carbon fiber used on a car so far on TurboAddict.com, let alone this being the first Mitsubishi featured on the site.

On the inside of the car, he flows in the carbon fiber feel with the carbon fiber door panels, carbon fiber center console, carbon fiber kicker panels, and an NGR carbon fiber shiftknob.  Jeff’s also got a Sparco steering wheel with a Sparco 3pt harness yet to be installed with the Bride Gias Low Max seats.  For audio, Jeff’s got an Alpine IDA-X001 headunit with Pioneer speakers.

Now, moving on to the engine, he swapped in the Evo III motor, equiped with HKS cam shafts and Skunk 2 cam gears.  The engine has a PTE 50 trim with the polished compression housing.  The turbo is set up with Slowboy Racing short-route piping, with a Greddy Type RS blow off valve.  The car is equipped with various other parts in the engine and transmission.  For example, the GSX axles, ACT Streetlite Flywheel, and the Fidanza short shifter with a Symbroski shifter kit and aluminum shifter cable bushings.

Jeff’s turbo Eclipse has a Forced Performance Race exhaust manifold, and a full 3″ exhaust, with the Megan Racing 3″ downpipe and cat eliminator.  The entire car is supported by Ksport Pro Kontol coilovers and will soon ride on 17″ Evo IX Enkie wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan tires.  The rear breaks will soon be converted to disk and it has Rotora 4 piston Big Brake kit.

The car also has tons of other modifications, which all complete this cars sexy image.  Carbon fiber is sexy and super lite weight.  All the parts on Jeff’s car sure do cut some weight off the car, making his 465 horsepower engine pull even harder.  Jeff’s 1997 turbo Eclipse sure sets a good path for cars using carbon fiber, turbo Eclipse’s on TurboAddict.com, and any other Misubishi to be featured on the site in the future.
